Program Highlights! |
The Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society successfully hosted the 46th Annual Ophthalmic Personnel Meeting on March 20, 2026, welcoming a growing audience of ophthalmic professionals from across the region. Attendance increased from the previous year, with more than 145 participants, including Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COTs), Certified Ophthalmic Assistants (COAs), and front and back-office staff—confirming continued enthusiasm for professional development and collaborative learning. Under the leadership of course directors Avni Vyas, MD, Cari Lyle, MD; Jeffrey Wincko, MD; and Ryan Zukerman, MD, the meeting delivered a dynamic and engaging educational program. The agenda featured a combination of general sessions and specialized breakout sessions designed to enhance clinical knowledge, strengthen practical skills, and provide insights that attendees could immediately apply in their practices. The Society extends sincere appreciation to its physician presenters, including Ian Conner, MD; David Baker, MD; Mark Seraly, MD; Dan Buerger, MD; Jay Chhablani, MD; Ryan Williamson, MD; Aiden Dmitriev, MD; and Joel Brown, MD, whose expertise and dedication enriched the program and supported the advancement of ophthalmic education. Additional sessions brought both energy and interactivity to the meeting. Kelly Moehrle, COMT, OSC and Crystal Martinez, COMT, OSA, OCS, OSC returned to lead engaging presentations, including the highly anticipated “Great Ophthalmology Trivia Game,” which encouraged audience participation and awarded prizes to trivia champions. Rounding out the program, Holly Stants MS, OTR/L, SCLV, CLVT presented on Occupational Therapy and Low Vision Rehabilitation, while Danielle Ferguson, COMT, CRA delivered a practical session on Urgent Eye Care Complaints and Triage, offering valuable guidance for staff. | Responding to feedback from last year, the meeting introduced a hands-on workshop component, to enhance the educational experience. Rob Nelson, COT, led the Retinoscopy Fundamentals and Practical Application Workshop, which generated interest and reached capacity quickly. Now in its 46th year, the Ophthalmic Personnel Meeting remains a cornerstone educational offering of the Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society. The program highlights the Society’s ongoing commitment to supporting the education, training, and professional growth of ophthalmic staff, who play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to making the 46th Annual Meeting a resounding success! We look forward to another engaging and educational gathering next year. |
